Communiqué

The People’s United Party expresses its sincere condolence to the people and the Government of the Republic of Haiti over the loss of lives and the devastation resulting from yesterday’s earthquake.  We mourn the loss of our Caribbean brothers and sisters and pray for the nation of Haiti.
The damage caused by this catastrophe will result in many deaths and significant damage and devastation to that nation’s infrastructure at a time when Haiti is still trying to recover from the storms and floods of September 2008.

Today many of our Haitian-Belizeans are trying to find out about their family and friends at home and we must offer them our support and our comfort as they try to deal with this tragic event.

At the moment Haiti, our sister CARICOM Nation, will need the assistance and support of all of us and we in the People’s United Party will join with the Government to do our part.  We stand in solidarity with the people of Haiti, with their Government and will support the efforts of the International Red Cross in their efforts.  We encourage all Belizeans to give generously to local efforts to assist the Haitian Government and People.
